We are pleased to highlight a compelling case of a new digital treasury model for the Milano Cortina 2026 Foundation, in collaboration with our member bank Intesa Sanpaolo. The Milano Cortina Foundation is responsible for organising and promoting the 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, and thus requires an organisational and technological vision whilst managing the financial flows of a major international event.

Through its digital banking platform Inbiz, Intesa Sanpaolo implemented an advanced Virtual Account Management system for Milano Cortina 2026. Sponsors, media partners and institutions were assigned a unique virtual IBAN, which enables direct routing of payments and receipts through such dedicated IBANs, whilst concentrating liquidity and control in one place. The key benefits include streamlined reconciliation, instant consolidation of funds, reduced administrative complexity and improved traceability.

With hundreds of stakeholders involved in Milano Cortina 2026, the Foundation required a treasury setup that would scale, remain transparent and support real-time monitoring. The virtual account model delivered:

  • High visibility and control: each transaction is traceable to a specific virtual IBAN, enabling clean accounting and avoiding ambiguity.
  • Operational efficiency: automated reconciliation and centralised liquidity management reduce manual workload and speed up cash-flow processing.
  • Flexibility and scalability: onboarding additional counterparties – be they sponsors, vendors or service providers  – becomes more simple than when opening separate traditional accounts individually.

In short, the virtual account model transformed what could have been a complex, fragmented treasury operation into a streamlined, centralised and highly manageable treasury engine.

As a member bank of IBOS, Intesa Sanpaolo’s success with the virtual account integration through Inbiz confirms the tangible value that modern digital treasury solutions can bring to complex, dynamic financial ecosystems.
