The Royal Bank of Scotland Group (RBS), founded in 1727, is the 3rd largest financial services group in Europe by market capitalisation and the 8th largest in the world. It is a broadly based financial services group with operations spanning retail banking, corporate and commercial banking, financial markets activities, wealth management and insurance. With an AA Credit Rating, RBS group has more than 30 million customers worldwide and total assets as of 31st December 2005 of £776 billion. Since 2000, the RBS group has made several acquisitions including the £21 billion acquisition of NatWest and the $10.1 billion acquisition of Charter One in the US. RBS has delivered double digit income growth every year for the last 5 years, and 42% of the group’s profits are generated outside the UK.
